Film locations in Mdina
Mdina, Malta's walled 'Silent City', was King's Landing in the first season of Game of Thrones: its Main Gate, Mesquita Square and lantern-lit lanes all appear on screen.
Mdina sits on a ridge in the middle of Malta, a walled medieval city of honey-coloured limestone with almost no traffic. Game of Thrones filmed here in 2010 for its first season, turning the gate and squares into King's Landing. The city is free to walk around at any hour, and it's at its quietest early in the morning or after dark.
