About Manikata (Lhazareen village)

Manikata is a quiet farming village in Mellieħa's countryside, surrounded by valleys of vines, melons and strawberries and known for Richard England's 1974 parish church, shaped like a traditional girna stone hut. Towards the end of October 2010, Game of Thrones used old rubble-stone ruins along what is now the Manikata Rural Heritage Trail as the village of the Lhazareen, the 'Lamb Men'. In episode 8 the Dothraki raid the village; Khal Drogo fights and kills his rider Mago, who challenges him, and takes a cut to the chest; Daenerys stops the rape of Lhazareen women and claims the healer Mirri Maz Duur, whose 'cure' later dooms Drogo. Today it's working farmland with a walking trail, rural ruins and wide views towards Għajn Tuffieħa — no set remains, so come for the landscape.

Best time to go

Spring (March–May) when the fields are green and the walk is cool.
