Murder on the Orient Express filming locations in Malta
Kenneth Branagh's Murder on the Orient Express (2017) filmed its opening 'Jerusalem' scenes in Valletta, with Fort St Elmo doubling for the Wailing Wall and the harbourside Customs House as the boat departure point.
Where was Murder on the Orient Express filmed in Malta?
The film opens in 1934 Jerusalem, where Poirot solves the theft of a relic in front of a crowd at the Wailing Wall. That sequence was shot in Valletta: Fort St Elmo's old walls doubled for the Wailing Wall, a set-up that put the fort forward for the EUFCN Location Award. Poirot then leaves by boat from the old Customs House below Lascaris Bastion, where the modern Barrakka Lift was digitally removed.
