Assassin's Creed filming locations in Malta

Assassin's Creed (2016), directed by Justin Kurzel and starring Michael Fassbender, began shooting in Malta on 31 August 2015, using Valletta's Merchants Street and St Dominic's Basilica roof, Fort Manoel and Fort Ricasoli for 15th-century Spain.

Where was Assassin's Creed filmed in Malta?

Malta stood in for Inquisition-era Seville and Granada. The heretic-burning auto-da-fé, with around 900 extras, was staged in the courtyard of Fort Manoel with Valletta in the background. Merchants Street in Valletta was dressed with sand, carts and stalls for a parkour chase that ends on the roof of the Basilica of St Dominic. A copy of the Alhambra's Court of the Lions was built inside Fort Ricasoli, and the tunnels of Fort Delimara at Marsaxlokk were used for underground scenes.
