Agora filming locations in Malta

Agora (2009), Alejandro Amenábar's drama about the philosopher Hypatia starring Rachel Weisz, was shot in Malta from March to June 2008, with Fort Ricasoli standing in for ancient Alexandria.

Where was Agora filmed in Malta?

Amenábar's story of Hypatia and the destruction of the Library of Alexandria was filmed entirely in Malta, starting on 17 March 2008. Its huge recreation of ancient Alexandria, built by nearly 400 people and the biggest set ever designed on the island at the time, went up at Fort Ricasoli in Kalkara, the same fort that had already played Rome in Gladiator and Troy.
