Genius: Picasso, the 2018 second season of National Geographic's Genius with Antonio Banderas as Pablo Picasso, spent nine days filming in Malta, which stood in for the South of France, Spain and summertime Paris.
Where was Genius: Picasso filmed in Malta?
Most of the season was shot in Budapest. In February 2018 the production came to Malta for nine days to cover scenes it couldn't get in a Hungarian winter. Showrunner Ken Biller said Malta stood in for the South of France, Spain, Paris streets in summer and a French-style château playing Villa La Californie, Picasso's late-life estate. Golden Bay was closed off and turned into a film set for the shoot, and Banderas was spotted around Valletta.
