About Mediterranean Conference Centre (Sacra Infermeria)
The Sacra Infermeria was the Knights of St John's great hospital. It was begun in 1574 on the Grand Harbour side of Valletta, near Fort St Elmo, and its Long Ward, about 155 metres long, was once among the longest halls in Europe. Bombed in the Second World War, it was restored and reopened in 1979 as the Mediterranean Conference Centre, and the former courtyard became a 1,400-seat theatre. Its long arcaded stone frontage has made it a favourite location. In Queen of the South season three it doubles as 'Bank Internazzjonali ta' Malta', the bank Teresa Mendoza's crew hits to get her money back. Back in 1978, Midnight Express used it as 'Section 13 for the Criminally Insane'. You can see the outside any time from Mediterranean Street.
