About Independence Square (It-Tokk), Victoria
It-Tokk has been Victoria's meeting place for centuries. Its morning market sells lace, cheeslets and souvenirs. On the north side is the curved Banca Giuratale, the 18th-century town council building that now houses Victoria's local council, with St James' Church on the corner. Narrow lanes lead off to the old shopping streets and on to St Francis Square. The Madame Blanc Mysteries uses Victoria as the market town of its French world, and the Brodeur & White antique shop run by Jean and Dom is filmed on a shopfront in these lanes. Fan location guides say the council building doubles as the Sainte Victoire museum. Coronation Street also filmed around St Francis Square in 2007. Nothing is permanently dressed, so expect a normal Gozitan town.
Best time to go
Weekday mornings when the market is set up; early evening for café life.
