About Mtaħleb & Miġra l-Ferħa Cliffs

West of Rabat the land ends in sheer cliffs above the sea, reached by a narrow, winding country road through Mtaħleb's terraced fields that finishes at a small car park at Miġra l-Ferħa. With nothing modern in sight, the flat clifftop was perfect for Essos. In autumn 2010 the production pitched the Dothraki khalasar's camp here. In episode 9, Khal Drogo, weakened by his infected wound, falls from his horse and Daenerys turns to the witch Mirri Maz Duur; in episode 10 she smothers the dying Drogo, builds his funeral pyre, walks into the flames and is found at dawn unburnt with three newborn dragons. Fans' guides place the pyre on the level field just to the left of the car park. Today it's an empty, windy headland, great for sunsets and cliff walks.

Best time to go

Late afternoon to sunset, when the light over the sea matches the pyre scenes' wild mood.
