About Valletta Waterfront (Pinto Wharf)

The Valletta Waterfront is a long line of 18th-century harbour warehouses on Pinto Wharf, below the bastions of Floriana, built under Grand Master Pinto and now restored as restaurants, bars and the cruise-liner terminal. In World War Z, when Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) arrives in walled 'Jerusalem', military trucks rumble along the waterfront road, Triq il-Vittmi Furjanizi tal-Gwerra, under the overhead walkways that link the buildings, while refugees pour through a checkpoint staged on the nearby Marsa wharves. With army vehicles, barriers and crowds, the waterfront convincingly became a city under siege. Today it's a relaxed promenade with colourful doors and harbour views, especially lively when cruise ships are in.

Best time to go

Evening, when the restaurants open and the warehouse doors are lit.
